Colossians 1:24-2:5

“For though I am absent in body, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good order and the firmness of your faith in Christ”. - Colossians 2:5

St. Paul’s service to the church came at a high price. For the sake of the Body of Christ Paul suffered and struggled as he sought “to make the word of God fully known” in the ancient world. Paul’s desire for the churches in Colossae, Laodicea, and all those he oversaw was for them to be encouraged, to grow together in faith and love, and to know Christ more and more each day.

Indeed, this is our desire as a church body as well. It is our prayer that God will continue to encourage us as we connect others to the love of Jesus. It’s our prayer that Christ will continue to knit us together as we Grow Together in God’s Word. And it’s our prayer that we continually come to a greater knowledge and love for the Gospel: Christ crucified and risen for the salvation of the entire world.

If you have ever felt fearful or discouraged. If you have ever felt overwhelmed by the enormity of the task. If you have ever felt as though the Christian Church has no hope or no future because of all the changes taking place in our country and culture, take heart! We do not work in vain! All the treasures and wisdom and riches are found in Christ (Col. 2:3).

So then, just as Paul exhorted the Christians in Colossae to remain firm in their faith in Jesus, so too does he exort us to do the same. Rather than being deluded with arguments that seek to destroy our faith in Christ, Paul reminds us to hold firm. To continue in our love of God and of one another so that the word of God will be made fully known in Sunnyvale, California, and to the ends of the earth.
