Place in Their Hands the
Holy Scriptures

How do you place the Holy Scriptures in your childŐs hands every day? How can you help your child grow in the nurture and admonition of the Holy Spirit? You can do this through printed resources, through intentional conversation, and by helping your child discover God and scripture in ordinary ways every day. Find the one that fits for you. You and your child will both cherish the time you spend on it together.

Scriptures in Every Day Life

See, speak, hear, taste, and sing scripture every day through these ways:

- Sunday school and confirmation take-home materials
- A homemade scrapbook of favorite Bible stories.
- Posters, plaques, or calendars with Bible verses on your walls.
- A Bible in a place where the children can see that you use it regularly.
- A radio tuned to a Christian station
- Audio tapes or CDs of Christian music
- Christian songs at bedtime or on the music rack of your piano.
- Car songs that include those from Sunday school, VBS, or Bible Camp
- Christian videos

Scripture in Print

Find a Bible storybook appropriate for your childŐs age and read it together at bedtime. Look for a size that fits their hands and illustrations that attract their eye. Here are some suggestions (note: these are suggestions only, not recommendations or endorsements):

Birth to Age 2: The Word and Picture Books, by Carol Wehrheim. This delightful set of 18 colorful picture books has coated board pages for infants and toddlers. Each book is based on a specific part of the Bible.

Ages 2 to 4: God Loves Me Bible, by Susan Beck. This contains 66 action-filled Bible stories illustrated with colorful art and fun details. Repetitive phrases will have your child "reading" along.

Ages 5 to 8: The Beginners Bible, by Karen Henley. This hardcover Bible has 100 stories with bright illustrations on every page. The text is appropriate for "read-to-me" preschoolers and "I can read" beginners.

Ages 9 to 12: The Family Story Bible, by Ralph Milton. The author writes, "Reading the Bible is like participating in amateur sport. If youŐre not having fun, youŐre not doing it right."

Ages 12 to 15: The New Century Youth Bible. This complete Bible contains a topical index, with subjects such as anger, depression, friends, and money; a devotional on each subject; and a related Bible passage and follow-up discussion.

Help your child find these daily scriptural discoveries. Start now. Share a little Bible time with your child each day. ItŐs one of the best gifts you can give him or her!
